Did you know that September is National Family Meals Month? This is the perfect time to gather your family around the table as it coincides well with the start of the school year.
National Family Meals Month was created to encourage frequent family meals. Family Meals is the facilitator. Food retailers will work together to encourage families to have an extra meal at home each week during the month of Septembre.
There is a lot of evidence to suggest that the structure of a meal can have a significant impact on the health of a child over time. Children and teens who eat with their families at least three times per week are less overweight than other children. They also tend eat healthier food and have fewer eating disorder. * Teenagers are less likely to show depression symptoms with each additional meal they share with their family each week. They are also less likely to use/abuse drugs and engage in delinquent behaviors.
How can we fit in more family time despite our busy schedules. It’s not easy, but there are ways to make it work.
My idea of a delicious breakfast for the family is a Ham on Rye sandwich. Hormel Cure81 classic dinner ham, sharp cheddar cheese and a deliciously cooked egg combine to make a delicious family breakfast.
The ham can easily be prepared ahead of time (per the instructions provided on the package), and assembled within minutes. This is served along with a side dish of fresh mixed fruits.
How to Make Ham and Rye Breakfast Sandwich
Prepare Hormel Classic Dinner Ham following the package instructions. This can be done a few days ahead and then refrigerated.
Make a mustard-mayonnaise sauce: In a large bowl, combine the mayonnaise and mustard. Stir until well combined.
Fry the eggs on medium heat in a nonstick pan. Add the butter and oil. Crack each egg carefully into the pan. Cook until desired yolk set. Remove the plate.
Assemble the sandwiches: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Add 4 marbled rye bread slices to a baking sheet. Add 2 slices of Hormel Classic Ham and 1 slice of sharp cheese.
Remove each from oven and top with a fried egg, salt, pepper, and tomato slices. Spread the mayo and mustard mix generously onto a second rye marbled slice.
